Combine graph exploration with AI chat for deep research.

Use Workbench for Investigation

Workbench combines graph visualization with the Agent in a single interface. Use it for research sessions where you need to explore entities and ask questions in context.

Workbench is in Beta. It's functional but actively evolving.

When to use Workbench

Visual explorationCosmograph
Deep investigationWorkbench

Workbench is for when you're spending significant time with a graph — building understanding through iteration.

Open Workbench

  1. Navigate to Workbench in the sidebar
  2. Select a graph from the list (or dropdown if one is already loaded)
  3. The graph loads with the Agent panel floating on the side

You can also open a specific graph in Workbench from the Graphs detail page.

The interface

Graph canvas

Full-screen graph visualization. Pan, zoom, and click nodes like in Cosmograph.

Entity drawer

When you click a node, the entity drawer slides in showing:

  • Entity properties and type
  • Connected entities (click to navigate)
  • Source documents with page links

Agent panel

Floating chat interface in the corner:

  • Ask questions about your documents
  • Agent operations are scoped to the current graph
  • Tool executions show in the panel

Investigation workflow

1. Start with a question

Ask the Agent: "Who are the key people involved in Project Alpha?"

2. Explore the answer

The Agent lists names with citations. You notice "John Smith" mentioned frequently.

3. Find in graph

Search for "John Smith" in the graph. The node highlights.

4. Explore connections

Click John Smith. See his connections — organizations, other people, locations.

5. Ask follow-up

"What is John Smith's relationship to Acme Corp?"

6. Trace to source

Click citations to open the source document. Verify the information.

7. Continue

Follow connections, ask questions, build understanding.

Graph controls

  • Zoom: Scroll or pinch
  • Pan: Click and drag background
  • Select: Click a node
  • Search: Use the search bar at top

Entity drawer

  • Close: Click the X or click the background
  • Navigate: Click connected entities to zoom to them
  • Open documents: Click source document links

Agent panel

  • The panel is always visible in the corner
  • Conversation is scoped to the current graph
  • Previous messages are preserved in the session

Tips

Let the graph guide questions See clusters or unexpected connections? Ask the Agent about them.

Use entity names Reference specific entities from the graph in your questions. "What does [Document X] say about [Entity Y]?"

Trace claims Always click citations to verify. The graph shows connections; the documents prove them.

Limitations

  • Single graph at a time — You work with one graph per session
  • Beta status — Some features are still being refined
  • Performance — Very large graphs may affect responsiveness
