Scopes

Understanding personal vs. team context in Moongraph.

Scopes

Scopes determine which documents, graphs, and content you're working with. You're always in one scope at a time — either Personal or a specific Team.

What Is a Scope?

Think of scopes as separate workspaces:

  • Personal scope: Your private documents and graphs. Only you can see them.
  • Team scope: Shared documents and graphs for a specific team. All team members can see them.

The current scope affects what you see everywhere in Moongraph — Files, Graphs, Agent, Search, etc.

Switching Scopes

The scope switcher is the dropdown at the top of the sidebar. It shows your current scope (Personal or a team name).

Click it to switch between:

  • Personal
  • Any teams you belong to

What Changes With Scope

AreaPersonal ScopeTeam Scope
FilesYour personal documentsTeam's shared documents
GraphsYour personal graphsTeam's shared graphs
FoldersYour personal foldersTeam's folders
AgentQueries your personal documentsQueries team documents
SearchSearches your documentsSearches team documents

Everything is filtered to the current scope.

Creating Content in a Scope

When you upload a document or create a graph, it belongs to your current scope:

  • In Personal scope → personal content
  • In Team scope → team content

Check your scope before uploading or creating. If you accidentally create something in the wrong scope, you'll need to re-upload or recreate it.

Agent Access

The Agent is scoped too. When you ask a question:

  • In Personal scope: The Agent searches your personal documents
  • In Team scope: The Agent searches the team's documents

If you want to query across everything, you'll need to ask in each scope separately. Cross-scope queries aren't currently supported.

Moving Content Between Scopes

Content doesn't move directly between scopes. Instead:

To share personal content with a team:

  1. Put documents in a folder
  2. Share the folder with the team
  3. Team members can now access those documents

To make team content personal:

This isn't directly supported. You would need to download and re-upload the documents to your personal scope.

Common Patterns

Research with a Team

  1. Switch to team scope
  2. Upload shared documents
  3. Build graphs together
  4. Use Agent to query shared knowledge

Personal Drafts, Then Share

  1. Stay in personal scope
  2. Upload and organize documents
  3. Build and validate your graph
  4. When ready, share the folder with your team

Multiple Teams

If you're in multiple teams, each team has its own scope. Switch between them as needed. Content in Team A is separate from content in Team B.

Troubleshooting

"I can't find my document"

Check your current scope. You might be in team scope looking for a personal document, or vice versa.

"The Agent doesn't know about my document"

Same issue — make sure you're in the scope where that document lives.

"My teammate can't see the graph I created"

Did you create it in team scope? Did you share it? Check both the scope and sharing settings.
