Credits & Usage
Moongraph uses a credit system to meter AI-powered features. This page explains how credits work, what consumes them, and what happens when they run out.
How credits work
Every Moongraph account has a monthly credit allocation. Credits are consumed when you use AI-powered features like:
- Agent queries — Asking questions and getting answers
- Graph extraction — Building knowledge graphs from documents
- Document processing — Parsing and embedding documents (Smart Analysis)
- Structured extraction — Running extraction schemas
- Search — Semantic and hybrid search operations
Simple operations like uploading files, organizing folders, and browsing don't consume credits.
Monthly billing period
Credits operate on a monthly cycle:
- Period start: Beginning of your billing period
- Period end: When credits reset to your monthly allocation
- Usage: Total credits consumed during the current period
- Balance: Remaining credits available
At the start of each period, your balance resets to your monthly allocation.
Viewing your usage
Navigate to Billing in the sidebar to see:
- Current balance and percentage remaining
- Monthly allocation
- Usage breakdown by operation type
- Transaction history
Low credit warnings
When your credits fall below 20%, an indicator appears in the top bar:
- Amber (1-20%): Credits running low
- Red (0% or less): Credits exhausted
Click the indicator to view your usage details.
When credits run out
If your balance reaches zero:
- Operations are blocked — A modal explains that credits are exhausted
- Reset date shown — You'll see when credits will reset
- Existing data unaffected — Documents, graphs, and past results remain accessible
- Read-only mode — You can browse and export, but not run new AI operations
What still works
- Viewing documents and graphs
- Exporting data (CSV, etc.)
- Organizing folders
- Browsing search results
- Accessing past Agent conversations
What's blocked
- New Agent queries
- Creating or updating graphs
- Running extraction jobs
- Processing new documents with Smart Analysis
Getting more credits
If you need credits before your monthly reset:
- Contact cole@moongraph.io to request a one-time adjustment
- Discuss increasing your monthly allocation for future periods
Cost factors
Different operations consume different amounts of credits based on:

|---|---|
| Document length | More pages = more credits |
| AI model used | More capable models cost more |
| Query complexity | Complex Agent queries with many tool calls cost more |
| Smart Analysis | Visual processing costs more than text-only |
Exact costs vary by operation. Check the Billing page for your actual usage patterns.
Transaction history
Every credit change is logged:

| Consumption | Normal usage from operations |
| Adjustment | Manual change by admin (e.g., credit request) |
| Monthly reset | Automatic refill at period start |
| Allocation change | Your monthly allocation was updated |
View your transaction history on the Billing page.
