Best Practices
Tips and best practices for getting the most out of Moongraph.
Best Practices
Follow these guidelines for the best experience with Moongraph.
Document Preparation
Quality Matters
Higher quality documents yield better extraction:
- Clear text — Avoid scanned documents with poor OCR
- Structured content — Headers, paragraphs, and lists help
- Consistent formatting — Standard fonts and layouts work best
File Size
Keep documents manageable:
- Split very large documents (500+ pages) into sections
- Remove unnecessary appendices or blank pages
- Combine related small documents for better context
Organization
Use Tags
Organize documents with tags:
- Create a consistent tagging system
- Use hierarchical tags (e.g.,
project/alpha,project/beta) - Tag by source, date, topic, or any relevant dimension
Naming Conventions
Use descriptive file names:
- ✅
acme-annual-report-2024.pdf - ❌
Document1.pdf
Graph Building
Start Focused
Begin with a focused set of documents:
- Start with 5-10 related documents
- Add more as you understand the connections
- Large graphs can be overwhelming
Iterative Refinement
Improve your graphs over time:
- Review extracted entities
- Merge duplicates (same entity, different names)
- Add missing relationships manually
- Remove false positives
Use Filters
Don't try to view everything at once:
- Filter by entity type
- Focus on high-connection nodes
- Hide low-relevance entities
Performance Tips
Batch Operations
When uploading many documents:
- Upload in batches of 20-50
- Wait for each batch to complete
- Monitor the processing queue
Browser Performance
For large graphs:
- Use a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)
- Close unused tabs
- Reduce graph complexity with filters
Security
Sensitive Documents
For sensitive content:
- Review Moongraph's security practices
- Use appropriate access controls
- Consider what metadata is extracted
